In an inspiring tale of resilience and determination, 18-year-old Martin Folsom has achieved academic excellence against all odds. Despite experiencing homelessness since childhood, Martin emerged as the best student at the A. Philip Randolph Career and Technical High School in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States.

Reflecting on his achievement, Folsom expressed the significance of this accomplishment, saying, "It kind of gave me a jolt in my chest a little bit, so it was a good feeling. It means a lot and it gives me a sense of all I've done and all I have accomplished was worth it."
The challenges that led to their homelessness were deeply troubling, as they sought refuge due to Melva's ex-husband's 40-year prison sentence for murder.The hardships continued, with periods of homelessness experienced in the 9th and 11th grades. During these trying times, Melva recounted their desperation to secure a place to live, which led to them finding shelter by the grace of providence.

Despite the instability, Martin Folsom excelled not only academically but also as a leader among his peers. His classmates looked up to him as a source of guidance and assistance.Folsom's success is attributed to the unwavering support of his mother and numerous individuals who sacrificed their time and resources to help him achieve his goals. Melva, his mother, played an instrumental role in his upbringing. "I just constantly kept pushing him to be better, and not necessarily to be No. 1, but to be better," she remarked.
With remarkable perseverance, Martin Folsom remained focused on his goals, explaining, "I never thought to myself, 'I can't do this anymore' or 'I'm done with this. It's always been, 'Well, it happened again and I've got to keep myself up and keep moving forward.'"
