383 KWASU Engineering Graduates Inducted into Nigerian Society of Engineers
A total of 383 newly graduated engineers were inducted as Graduate Members of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) on Monday, December 15, 2025, at an induction ceremony and public lecture jointly organised by the NSE Ilorin Branch and the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Kwara State University (KWASU).
In his opening remarks, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Shaykh-Luqman Jimoh, stated that KWASU graduates are unique because, beyond rigorous academic training and hands-on practical exposure, they are also taught the rudiments of establishing and growing personal businesses.
Declaring the induction open, the Vice-Chancellor, who was represented by the Dean of the Faculty of Pure and Applied Sciences, Professor Olushola James, urged the inductees to abide by the rules and ethics guiding the engineering profession. He warned that the consequences of negligence are far-reaching and affect all concerned.
In her welcome address, the President of the NSE and Chairman of the occasion, Engr. Margaret Aina Oguntala, FNSE, who was represented by Engr. Kolawole Yusuf, FNSE, stated that the school-based induction was a formal call to service as the backbone of national development. She urged the graduates to utilise their knowledge to build and support a sustainable future.
The Chairman of NSE, Ilorin Branch, Dr. O. A. Ogunjirin described engineering as a profession that builds a nation and urged the inductees to be active members of the society. He stressed that the NSE would provide mentors to guide them in their professional journey.
The Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Engr. Professor Abdulbaqi Toyin Abdulrahim admonished the inductees to be ethical in their practice and to see engineering as service to humanity.
Delivering the lecture on the theme, “Sustainable Engineering for a Blue Economy: The Path to Environmental Responsibility and Green Careers,” the guest speaker, Engr. Professor J. K. Odusote stated that the sustainable development of any economy relies heavily on sustainable engineering. He noted that the development of a formidable blue economy requires the protection of oceans, seas, rivers, and streams.
Prizes and awards were given to brilliant and exceptional students across departments and facilities.
