47 students bag 1st class honours at Bells University

A total of 47 students of Bells University of Technology, Ota, Ogun have graduated with First Class degrees in the 2021/2022 academic session.

The vice-chancellor, Prof. Jeremiah Ojediran, announced this on Saturday during the University’s 14th convocation, conferment of Doctorate degrees and presentation of prizes.

According to Mr Ojediran, a total of 823 students graduated in the 2021/2022 academic session.

This comprised 47 students who made First Class honours; 422 students with Second Class Upper; 309 with Second Class Lower; 45 with Third Class.

The vice chancellor said that 177 postgraduate students also bagged different degrees.

Mr Ojediran called on the Federal Government to properly fund and improve the quality of tertiary and other levels of education in the country.

The vice chancellor noted that education was one of the fundamental factors of national development and indisputably served as a major agent of transformation and development all through human history.

He said that no nation could achieve a sustainable economic development without substantial investment in human capital.

“Education enriches people’s understanding of themselves and the world and at the same time provides the much desired impetus for development.

“It is the time for the Federal Government to wake up to its duties and responsibilities in properly funding higher education in the country.” he said.

Mr Ojediran noted that the aim of public and private sectors for investing in education in Nigeria was to help the society.

He said it was to help it fill the identified gaps in the demand and supply of professionals and required skills by producing graduates that are worthy in character and learning.

In his welcome address, the President and Chairman, Board of Trustees of the institution, Dr Kola Jamodu, said that the institution had recorded remarkable achievements since its inception in 2005.

Jamodu said that this could not have been achieved without the support of the founding fathers of the institution.

He commended former president Olusegun Obasanjo for his inspiring vision and great contributions to education in the country.

Rahmat Arogundade, a graduate of Mechatronics Engineering in the College of Engineering, emerged the best graduating student, with a Cumulative Grade Point Average, CGPA of 5.0.
