470 Epe Students in Lagos Receive N50,000 Each as Bursary from Council
The Epe Local Government Council in Lagos has launched a bursary initiative, providing N50,000 each to 470 students from the area who are enrolled in tertiary institutions. The first batch of 50 students received the funds at a ceremony led by the council's Chairperson, Surah Animashaun, who emphasized the program's goal of alleviating financial burdens on students and supporting their education.
About 470 students of Epe Local Government origin studying in various tertiary institutions have been selected to benefit from a N50,000 bursary initiative launched by the council to support their academic pursuits.
The Chairperson of Epe Local Government, Surah Animashaun, disclosed this at the presentation ceremony for the first batch of 50 beneficiaries held at the council office in Lagos State. She stated that the bursary was designed to alleviate the financial burdens on students and their families, helping them focus on their education.
Animashaun highlighted that the bursary scheme targets students from both public and private tertiary institutions, with each receiving N50,000. She acknowledged the importance of education in shaping the future, noting that the initiative serves as a response to the financial constraints students often face.
"I recognize the importance of education in shaping the future, but I also acknowledge the financial challenges you face," she said. "This programme is my response to such challenges. I believe every student should have access to quality education, regardless of their financial situation."
Youth representative Rahmon Saheed commended the Chairperson for her commitment to education, describing her as "a mother and a good listener." He praised her leadership for changing the narrative of education in Epe.
The Education Secretary, Shittu Aliu (Saico), also lauded Animashaun's dedication to empowering the youth in Epe, noting that the programme demonstrated her unwavering commitment to educational development in the community.
Yusuff Kazeem, who was recognized as Nigeria's Best Teacher in the Secondary School category, encouraged the beneficiaries to utilize the bursary wisely, urging them to make the Chairperson and Epe proud.
Several beneficiaries, including Richard Oladeinde, Ayomide Adeshina, and Badmus Gbemisola from Lagos State University, Ojo, expressed their gratitude to Animashaun, recognizing the bursary as a testament to her passion for the academic and personal growth of students in the area.
Other recipients promised to use the funds judiciously, appreciating the Chairperson's gesture aimed at easing their financial burdens and supporting their educational aspirations.
