80 Schools Set to Celebrate Wole Soyinka's 90th Birthday with Special Exhibition

In a grand celebration of Nobel Laureate Prof. Wole Soyinka’s 90th birthday, 80 schools will gather on July 13, 2024. The importance of this celebration is in inspiring and reigniting the passion for scholarship and creativity among students.

In a grand celebration of Nobel Laureate Prof. Wole Soyinka’s 90th birthday, 80 schools will gather on July 13, 2024. The Initiative for Information, Arts and Culture Development (IACD) announced this plan on Monday, highlighting it as a significant event to honor the renowned author.

 During a press briefing in Ibadan, Kolade Mosuro, the President of IACD, shared details of the upcoming celebration, highlighting a range of programs designed for the exhibition.

Mosuro stated, "The students will know more about Soyinka who is a patriot, advocate of fair play, dramatist, artist, guitarist, music lover and Nobel laureate." He emphasized that the event will enable students to learn from Soyinka's inspiring journey of dedication to study, introspection, and personal growth. 

Mosuro also revealed specific performances scheduled for the celebration, such as stage plays like "The Lion and The Jewel," "Childe's International," and "Isara: A stage adaption of Wole Soyinka." These performances are set to take place at various venues in Ibadan throughout July 2024.

In addition to the live performances, a special exhibition depicting the full life of Wole Soyinka will be showcased from July 2 to July 31, 2024, at the IACD premises on Magazine Road, Jericho, Ibadan. The exhibition will feature a display of visuals, memorabilia, and sound narratives that together intricately narrate the remarkable story of Soyinka's life.

Mosuro expressed the importance of this celebration in inspiring and reigniting the passion for scholarship and creativity among students. He stressed the significance of Soyinka's life as a testament to the values of dedication, reflection, and conscientiousness, and encouraged both students and the general public to participate in this unique and enlightening celebration.
