89-year-old woman, Joan Donovan, has made headlines by returning to school to earn two degrees in the United States. After facing financial challenges that forced her to stop her educational pursuit, Joan decided to fulfill her academic dreams later in life.
Joan, a military spouse and breast cancer survivor, earned her bachelor’s degree at the age of 84 and later obtained her master’s degree at 89 in the United States.

Joan’s journey began when she completed high school at just 16 years old but was unable to pursue higher education due to financial constraints. “When I graduated from high school, I was told there was no money in the family to send me to college,” she recalled.
After raising her six children, Joan decided to resume her studies. She first obtained an associate’s degree from a community college, followed by a bachelor’s degree. Joan then proceeded to earn her master’s degree in English and creative writing online from Southern New Hampshire University (SHNU).

Joan revealed that she is using her new degree to write a rom-com novel as well as an autobiography, while continuing to inspire others with her dedication and resilience.
