Abducted varsity students: Zamfara Gov gets briefing from security chiefs

Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has been briefed on the status of the remaining kidnapped victims of the Federal University, Gusua, and the measures being implemented to ensure their safe return. The update was provided during a State Security Council meeting held at the Government House, where various heads of security agencies were in attendance. According to a statement by the Governor's spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, the meeting addressed strategies to combat the rising cases of banditry, kidnapping, and other criminal activities within the state. Governor Lawal was presented with a comprehensive report on the remaining kidnapped victims and the steps being taken to secure their release. The heads of security agencies also reviewed the progress made in the implementation of previous security measures and made recommendations for further enhancements.

In addition to addressing the immediate security concerns, Governor Dauda Lawal took a significant step in enhancing the state's security infrastructure. He inaugurated a steering committee tasked with establishing Community Protection Guards (CPG). The Committee, under the chairmanship of the Deputy Governor, Malam Mani Malam Mumini, comprises members from relevant stakeholders and organizations. Its primary responsibility is to develop an actionable framework for the immediate commencement of CPG activities.

The Committee has been given a timeline of 30 days to complete its tasks and submit a comprehensive report. Governor Lawal's proactive approach in addressing security challenges and initiating the Community Protection Guards initiative demonstrates a commitment to safeguarding the lives and property of Zamfara residents.
