Abia State Government Initiates Tuition-Free Vocational Schools
Abia State government plans to establish tuition-free vocational schools in each senatorial district to empower youths with practical skills, alongside banning one-way traffic and suspending sanitation exercises for the Geometric Power Company plant inauguration.

The Abia State government has unveiled plans to pioneer a significant initiative aimed at empowering youths through skills acquisition. In a recent briefing to the press, Prince Okey Kanu, the Commissioner for Information and Culture, revealed that the state government, under the leadership of Governor Alex Otti, is set to establish tuition-free vocational schools across each of the state's three senatorial districts.
Speaking after a meeting of the executive council chaired by Governor Alex Otti in Umuahia, Prince Okey Kanu emphasized the administration's commitment to equipping young people with practical skills rather than conventional handouts. He highlighted that the program would offer a one-year residential training program targeting youths who lack skills, providing them with comprehensive training in areas such as solar power assembly and installation, Plaster of Paris (POP) designing and installation, painting, masonry, tiling, and other essential vocational skills.

Furthermore, Kanu outlined that upon completion of the training, graduates would receive financial support to establish their businesses, fostering entrepreneurship and self-reliance. He stressed the critical need to address the scarcity of artisans with requisite skills within the state, noting that the initiative would ensure that Abia State has a pool of skilled youths capable of meeting various technical demands.

In addition to the vocational training initiative, Kanu announced the government's decision to ban "one-way traffic" across the state, citing a commitment to upholding safety standards and traffic regulations. This measure aligns with the administration's broader agenda of promoting lawfulness and orderliness in the state.

Moreover, in anticipation of the inauguration of the Geometric Power Company plant in Aba on February 24th, the government has suspended the sanitation exercise scheduled for the same day, allowing for a smooth and focused event.
The announcement of these strategic initiatives underscores the government's proactive approach towards addressing youth unemployment, promoting skill development, and enhancing overall socioeconomic development in Abia State.
