ABSU Professor Wins National Research Fund Grant for Ugba Food Safety and Commercialization Study
A Professor of Microbiology at Abia State University (ABSU), Uturu, Prof. Osita C. Ugbogu, has been awarded the National Research Fund (NRF) Grant to conduct a research project focused on improving food safety, nutritional value, and commercialization of fermented Ugba (African oil bean seed) in Nigeria.

Ugbogu, has been awarded the National Research Fund (NRF) Grant to conduct a research project focused on improving food safety, nutritional value, and commercialization of fermented Ugba (African oil bean seed) in Nigeria.
The research project is titled: “Valorization of Fermented Ugba (African Oil Bean Seed) for Enhanced Food Safety, Nutritional Value and Commercialization in Nigeria.”
The development was announced by the Vice-Chancellor and Chairman of Senate, Prof. Ndukwe J. Okeudo, during the 287th Senate Meeting of the university, where he highlighted the achievement as part of ongoing research milestones recorded under his administration.

Prof. Okeudo described Prof. Ugbogu, who also serves as Dean of the Postgraduate School, as a distinguished scholar whose research output continues to enhance the university’s visibility, academic standing, and institutional ranking.
The University Senate commended Prof. Ugbogu for the achievement, expressing confidence in his continued contributions to research innovation, academic excellence, and national development.
