ABSU Screens 38 First-Class Graduates for Automatic Employment

Abia State University (ABSU) has screened 38 first-class graduates from its 30th to 32nd convocation ceremonies for automatic employment as Graduate Assistants, in line with the directive of the Governor of Abia State and Visitor to the University, Dr. Alex Otti.

Abia State University (ABSU) has screened 38 first-class graduates from its 30th to 32nd convocation ceremonies for automatic employment as Graduate Assistants, in line with the directive of the Governor of Abia State and Visitor to the University, Dr. Alex Otti.

The screening exercise, held on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, was conducted for eligible graduates who have completed the mandatory National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), paving the way for the issuance of their employment letters.

Speaking during the exercise, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ndukwe J. Okeudo, represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Professor Roseline Ndimele, congratulated the graduates on their outstanding academic achievements.

She said the university was proud of their accomplishments and remained committed to recognising excellence and rewarding hard work.

Professor Ndimele explained that only graduates who had completed the NYSC programme were eligible to submit their application documents, while those currently serving or yet to begin national service would be considered after completing the programme.

The Registrar, Dr. Acho Elendu, said the screening exercise was organised in compliance with the directive of Governor Alex Otti. He urged all prospective beneficiaries to strictly follow the screening guidelines to avoid errors and misinformation during the process.

The employment initiative was announced by Governor Otti during the university's 30th to 32nd combined convocation ceremony held on March 27, 2026, at the renovated University Pavilion.

At the ceremony, the Governor approved the automatic retention of all first-class graduates from the three convocation sets as Graduate Assistants upon successful completion of the National Youth Service Corps.

He also announced that the employment opportunity would be extended to the best graduating students in each department, provided they attained a minimum cumulative grade point average of 4.25.

In addition, Governor Otti approved postgraduate scholarships for all first-class graduates from the three convocation sets to pursue studies up to doctoral level at any public university of their choice within Nigeria, subject to their acceptance of the teaching appointments offered by the university.

The university disclosed that the 38 first-class graduates who participated in the screening exercise would soon receive their employment letters, fulfilling the Governor's commitment to rewarding academic excellence.
