The Nigerian Institution of Surveyors (NIS), Anambra State Chapter, has sought a strategic partnership with Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU), while advocating the establishment of a Department of Surveying at the institution.

The Nigerian Institution of Surveyors (NIS), Anambra State Chapter, has sought a strategic partnership with Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU), while advocating the establishment of a Department of Surveying at the institution.

The proposal was presented during a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor of COOU, Professor Kate Azuka Omenugha, FNIPR, at the Vice-Chancellor's Conference Room, Igbariam Campus, on Thursday, 9 July 2026.

The visit also provided an opportunity for the professional body to congratulate Professor Omenugha on her appointment as the university's fifth substantive Vice-Chancellor.

Leading the delegation, the Chairman of the Nigerian Institution of Surveyors, Anambra State Chapter, Surveyor Chief Gabby Okeke, introduced members of the delegation and commended the Vice-Chancellor for her warm reception and visionary leadership.

He said the Institution was eager to establish a partnership with the university and appealed for the creation of a Department of Surveying at COOU, expressing confidence in Professor Omenugha's ability to make the proposal a reality.

The delegation also presented gifts to the Vice-Chancellor as a gesture of goodwill.

Responding, Professor Omenugha appreciated the delegation for the visit and congratulatory message. She commended the commitment of the university's management team, particularly acknowledging the contributions of the University's Public Relations Officer, Dr. Harrison Madubueze, and other principal officers for their roles in driving the institution's transformation.

Reaffirming her administration's guiding philosophy of the "3Vs"—Values, Viability and Visibility—she welcomed the delegation to what she described as the "Now University and the University of the Future."

On the proposal to establish a Department of Surveying, the Vice-Chancellor advised the professional body to submit a comprehensive proposal to enable the university commence the necessary institutional processes.

She explained that the proposal would form the basis for engagement with the University's Senate and other relevant authorities on the establishment of the department.

Professor Omenugha also assured the delegation of COOU's readiness to embrace strategic partnerships capable of expanding its academic programmes and strengthening professional education in line with national development priorities.

The visit ended with both parties expressing their commitment to sustained collaboration aimed at advancing higher education, academic innovation, institutional growth and professional excellence in Anambra State.
