ABU-PTDF Professorial Chair Pioneers Research into Zeolite-Based Catalysts

The Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) Professorial Chair at Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) is at the forefront of pioneering research into zeolite-based catalysts using indigenous resources.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Adamu Ahmed, disclosed this at the close-out seminar organized by the ABU-PTDF Chair on July 3, 2025.

The research team at ABU has successfully synthesized advanced zeolite types tailored for local refining conditions. They have also developed and piloted formulations for Fluid Catalystic Cracking (FCC) and Refinery Fluid Catalytic Cracking (RFCC) catalysts capable of handling challenging feedstocks typical of Nigerian refineries.
