As part of activities marking its 45th Convocation Ceremony, Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, has announced a free eye health outreach programme for members of the university community.
According to a Special Bulletin issued by the Public Affairs Directorate, Office of the Vice-Chancellor, the outreach will be conducted by the Al-Ama Foundation from Thursday, 29 January to Saturday, 31 January 2026, daily between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
Outreach Locations
- Thursday, 29 January – Friday, 30 January 2026: Senate Building Main Entrance
- Saturday, 31 January 2026: ABU Medical Centre (Sickbay)

Services Offered
The programme will provide a range of eye care services, including:
- Cataract screening and surgery
- Provision of reading glasses
- Consultation and basic optical support services
The initiative targets students, staff, alumni, dignitaries, and visitors attending the convocation, aiming to promote early detection of common vision problems and enhance preventive eye healthcare within the university community.
ABU management encouraged all members of the university to take full advantage of this free medical outreach, noting that services will be provided by qualified eye health professionals and support personnel.
This programme reflects the University’s commitment to holistic student and staff welfare while fostering awareness on preventive health.
