ABUAD College of Sciences Dominates TechXPlore Convention with Academic and ICT Excellence

In a striking showcase of academic and ICT prowess, six Computer Science students from Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti (ABUAD), emerged triumphant at the 2023 TechXPlore Convention, outshining competitors from ten esteemed Federal and Private Universities in Nigeria.

The convention, held at Babcock University, featured a week-long series of events, including Software Pitching, Inter-University Debate, Panel Discussion, Seminar, School Tour, Tech Hiring, Dinner, and an Award Ceremony. Participating universities included the University of Ilorin, Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, University of Lagos, Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti, Babcock University, Ilisan-Remo, and others.

The ABUAD team, comprising Mbato Chimenem, Olatokun Abdulazeez Olayinka, Bakare Firdous, Ndubuisi Chidinma Adelle, Salami Oluwaseun Samuel, and Adebayo Adedolapo Kehinde, accompanied by lecturers Mr. A. O. Sanya and Mrs. Tope-Oke, showcased exceptional skills.

In the debate session on "Social Media is a plus to humanity," ABUAD triumphed over Bells University with an impressive score of 86%, securing the Overall Best for the First Round. The team continued its success in the Second Round, defending the motion "Technology is making us more human" against Caleb University with a score of 73.9%.

The climax of the debate featured ABUAD defending the motion "Artificial Intelligence Is A Threat To Humanity" against Babcock University. Judges unanimously awarded ABUAD 82%, declaring them the Overall Winner of the debate.

The ABUAD team shone in the Software Pitching session with their innovative idea titled "Vet-Vision," a system for early detection of life-threatening diseases in livestock. Judges praised the team, noting their contribution to the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) 2 and 8.

TechXPlore Convention's seminar featured industry leaders like Adetunji Tejuosho, Head of Academy at Kuda Microfinance Bank, and ABUAD alumnus Victor Ifeanyichukwu, currently a Cybersecurity Specialist at Wema Bank Plc. Impressed by ABUAD's performance, Ifeanyichukwu offered mentorship opportunities to the students.
