ABU's Innovative Approach to Distance Learning: TV Series and Film

Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), located in Zaria, Nigeria, is set to pioneer a unique approach to delivering distance learning academic courses. In a move in line with global trends, ABU's Distance Learning Centre has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Dorayi Film and Distributing Company. This collaboration aims to promote ABU's academic programs through film production and television series.

Under the terms of the MoU, both parties will work together to enhance their collaboration in areas such as film production, film casting, and sponsorship. ABU's Distance Learning Centre, recognized as a leading institution in modern open distance and e-learning deliveries, will sponsor the production of a movie titled "MISALI," retain the television rights for the production, and own the intellectual property rights.

On the other hand, Dorayi Film and Distributing Company, a Kano-based television production firm, will handle various aspects of the television series' production, including scriptwriting, casting, production, editing, marketing, and other responsibilities. The duration for the production of the TV series, as outlined in the MoU, will be for four months, starting from November 13, 2023, and concluding on March 13, 2024.

The collaboration between ABU and Dorayi Film and Distributing Company also aims to foster mutual value in entertainment and advertising, as well as participation in organized events.

Professor M.I. Sule, the Director of ABU's Distance Learning Centre, expressed confidence in the agreement, emphasizing that the center would be "well protected and promoted" under this initiative.

This innovative approach by ABU signals a forward-thinking way to deliver distance learning courses by leveraging the power of television and film production, aligning itself with global trends and enhancing access to education.
