Gombe State University Partners with University Putra Malaysia for Academic Advancement
Gombe State University (GSU) has entered an academic partnership with University Putra Malaysia (UPM) to strengthen its research and academic programs.
In a move aimed at enhancing its academic and research profile, Gombe State University (GSU) has established a strategic academic partnership with University Putra Malaysia (UPM). The collaboration follows a visit by a delegation from GSU to UPM's Centre for Industrial Relations and Networks (CiRNeT).
The GSU delegation included esteemed academics such as Professor Hajjagana Hamza, Dean of the Faculty of Sciences; Professor Fatima Umar Maigari, Head of the Department of Medical Biochemistry; Associate Professor Mohammed Tukur, a UPM alumnus; and Dr. Hamza Ahmed Pantami, Deputy Director of Research and Development and Head of the Department of Pharmaceutical and Medicinal Chemistry, also a UPM alumnus.
Representing UPM were prominent scholars including Professor Dr. Shamsul Bahri Hj. Md. Tamrin, Director of CiRNeT; Associate Professor Bimo Ario Tejo from the Faculty of Science and International Office; Associate Professor Emilia Abd Malek, Head of the Department of Chemistry; and Nor Izwan Hakimi Bin Nor Azmi, Executive Officer of CiRNeT.
The partnership aims to enhance GSU's academic and research capacities through a range of initiatives. Key components of the agreement include:
- Research Attachments: GSU staff and students will participate in both short and long-term research programs at UPM.
- Access to Advanced Facilities: GSU researchers will benefit from immediate access to UPM's state-of-the-art facilities.
- Collaboration Centre: A dedicated GSU-UPM collaboration centre will be established after a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) is signed.
- Fellowships and Research Opportunities: Fellowships and hands-on research opportunities for GSU staff and students were also finalized.
The agreement further includes arrangements for bench work and postdoctoral opportunities, signifying a robust foundation for academic growth.
Speaking on the development, the Acting Vice-Chancellor of GSU, Professor Sani Ahmed Yauta, described the partnership as a significant milestone in the university’s efforts to internationalize its academic offerings. “This collaboration underscores our commitment to global integration and ensuring world-class educational and research opportunities for our academic community,” he said.
The initiative is expected to provide substantial benefits for both institutions, fostering an environment of mutual growth and academic excellence.
