ABUTH Family Medicine Hosts 2026 Ramadan Lecture and Iftar; Over 400 Gather for Discourse on Ethics and Spirituality
Over 400 Staff and Members of the Hospital community gathered for the Annual Ramadan Iftar and Lecture hosted by the Department of Family Medicine, Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital (ABUTH), Zaria, on Thursday, 23rd Ramadan 1447H (12th March 2026) at the hospital premises, Tudun Wada. The programme also attracted an appreciable virtual audience via YouTube livestream.
The event featured two timely lectures addressing ethics and spirituality in healthcare, “Corruption in Healthcare: Trust, Amanah, and the Small Wrongs We Overlook” delivered by Dr. Muhammad Mustapha Yakubu, Consultant Cardiologist and State Ameer, IMAN Kaduna.
“Spiritual Sensitivity in Healthcare, "Making Hospitals Ibadah-Friendly” presented by Malam Mukhtar Musa, Provost, College of Nursing ABUTH.
The session was moderated by Dr. Ibrahim Banaru, Consultant Family Physician.
In his remarks the Chief Medical Director, ably represented by Prof. M. B. Aminu Chairman Medical Advisory committee (CMAC) conveyed the goodwill of the Chief Medical Director, Prof. A. U. Hamidu, and commended the organisers. He noted that professional ethics and duty of care are deeply rooted in Islamic values and encouraged staff to maintain high standards of professionalism.
On behalf of the Director of Administration, Barr. B. J. Umar, Hospital Secretary, commended the initiative for bringing staff together across cadres and noted that being dutiful in one’s work is itself a form of worship.
In his remarks, Dr. A. G. Sule, Head, Department of Family Medicine and Medical Superintendent, T/Wada thanked participants and acknowledged the generous support of the Hospital under the Chief Medical Director, Prof. A. U. Hamidu, as well as contributions from other spirited individuals. He also appreciated the organising committee, noting the significance of the event for the Hospital community and emphasising the central role of Family Medicine in providing holistic care. Souvenirs were presented to the visiting scholars and supporting individuals as tokens of appreciation.
The programme concluded with heartfelt duas for the Ummah, the Hospital community, and the Nation, followed by Maghrib prayer and a communal iftar with generous meals and refreshments shared among staff and guests.
