Accreditation Exercise Not a Punitive Measure — NUC Clarifies at IAUE

The National Universities Commission (NUC) has stated that accreditation exercises in tertiary institutions are not punitive in nature but are aimed at strengthening quality assurance and maintaining academic standards across Nigerian universities.

The clarification was made by Professor Prince Awam David Menegbe from Prince Abubakar Audu University, Anyigba, Kogi State, during a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor of Ignatius Ajuru University of Education (IAUE), Professor Okechuku Onuchuku, on October 14, 2025, at the Council Chambers.

Professor Menegbe explained that the NUC team’s visit was to assess IAUE’s preparedness to host the Theatre and Film Studies programme and to share insights that could further enhance educational development within the institution. He assured the Vice-Chancellor that the team would conduct the exercise diligently and objectively, while appreciating the warm reception accorded them.
