Activista Yola Supports Modibbo Adama University Students Denied Exam Access

Activista Yola has voiced strong concern over the recent decision by Modibbo Adama University (MAU), Yola, to bar students with outstanding fees from sitting for examinations.

The civic group stressed that education is a fundamental right that should not be denied, especially to students from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Earlier, MAU had issued a notice warning that students who had not cleared their fees would be excluded from examinations. While acknowledging the need for financial sustainability, Activista Yola urged the university’s management to adopt policies that also prioritize student welfare.

The organization noted that the current semester has been unusually short—lasting less than two months—leaving many students with insufficient time to raise the required funds. Denying them the opportunity to write exams, it warned, could jeopardize their academic progress and deepen existing inequalities.

In its appeal, Activista Yola called on the Vice-Chancellor and University Senate to embrace empathy, dialogue, and pragmatic solutions that protect both institutional stability and the aspirations of students. The group reaffirmed its solidarity with MAU students and emphasized that a balance can be struck between upholding academic integrity and ensuring no student is left behind due to financial hardship.
