Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, has announced a vacancy for the position of Vice-Chancellor, inviting qualified and distinguished academics with at least 15 years of university teaching and administrative experience to apply. The Vice-Chancellor serves as the university’s Chief Accounting and Academic Officer, an ex-officio member of the Council, and Chairman of the Senate. Key responsibilities include advising the Council on finance and administration matters, maintaining order and efficient management, enforcing university laws and regulations, overseeing student admissions, and ensuring discipline within the institution.
Applicants for the position must hold the rank of Professor for a minimum of 10 years in a reputable institution and possess a strong academic reputation. They must also have extensive experience in university administration and familiarity with the challenges of managing a large university. Additionally, candidates are expected to command national and international respect within academic circles, demonstrate moral integrity, and be physically and mentally fit. The age limit for applicants is 65 years.
Qualified individuals are asked to submit 30 copies of an application letter, a comprehensive curriculum vitae, and a statement outlining their vision for the university. These documents, to be marked "POST OF VICE-CHANCELLOR, A.B.U., ZARIA," should be submitted confidentially to the Registrar and Secretary to the Council by December 13, 2024.
Candidates are also required to provide three referees, with at least two able to attest to the applicant's academic, professional, and managerial capabilities.
