Ahmadu Bello University Celebrates 63rd Anniversary
Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, marked its 63rd anniversary on October 4, 2025. The university was founded on October 4, 1962, and has since grown to become one of the largest and most prestigious institutions in sub-Saharan Africa.
The anniversary celebration featured prayers at mosques and churches across the university's two campuses, as well as a press conference addressed by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Adamu Ahmed. During the press conference, Prof. Ahmed is expected to highlight ABU's significant contributions to national, regional, and global developments.
ABU has a rich history, dating back to its origins in the defunct Nigerian College of Arts, Science, and Technology, Zaria, founded in 1955. The university has expanded significantly over the years, with 18 faculties, 110 academic departments, a College of Medical Sciences, a Postgraduate College, a Distance Learning Centre, and several research institutes and centres.
