Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) has made a significant presentation on its contributions to national, regional, and global developments at the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) in Yokohama, Japan.
The conference, which took place from August 20th to 22nd, 2025, brought together African and Japanese leaders, business executives, and academics to discuss policy and development issues affecting Africa.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Adamu Ahmed, represented ABU at the conference, highlighting the university's academic standing and contributions to manpower development, agriculture and nutrition, education, engineering, and the sciences. Prof. Ahmed also made a strong submission for collaborations with Japanese institutions in eight key areas, including joint undergraduate degree programs, faculty and student exchanges, joint research, and grant sourcing.
Several Japanese universities have expressed interest in collaborating with ABU in the areas highlighted by the Vice-Chancellor. These potential partnerships are expected to enhance ABU's research and academic capabilities, promoting mutual benefits for both Nigerian and Japanese institutions.
The Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) is a triennial international conference on African development initiated by the Japanese Government in 1993. The conference provides a platform for high-level policy dialogue towards peace, stability, and development in Africa, in collaboration with the United Nations, the World Bank, and the African Union Commission.
