Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital Appoints Prof. Muhammad Ibrahim Zaria as CMAC

The Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare has approved the appointment of Professor Muhammad Ibrahim Zaria as the new Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee (CMAC) of the Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital (ABUTH), Zaria.

The appointment, conveyed in a letter dated April 28, 2026, takes effect on May 4, 2026, for an initial two-year term. The Coordinating Minister urged Prof. Zaria to leverage his extensive expertise and leadership to justify the confidence reposed in him by the Federal Government.

Prof. Zaria is a Professor of Radiology at Ahmadu Bello University and a Chief Consultant Radiologist at ABUTH. His career is marked by several pioneering administrative roles.

A prolific researcher, Prof. Zaria has published extensively on diagnostic imaging, focusing on critical areas such as stroke, cardiovascular diseases, sickle cell disease, and maternal-fetal medicine. His professional influence extends to leadership positions within the Medical and Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria (MDCAN), the Association of Radiologists in Nigeria (ARIN), and the Islamic Medical Association of Nigeria (IMAN).

Beyond clinical practice, Prof. Zaria is recognized for his dedication to community health, having led numerous medical outreaches to underserved populations across Kaduna State. He also served the nation as a medical officer for the Nigerian Hajj Medical Missions in 2011 and 2014.

Prof. Zaria succeeds the outgoing leadership with a mandate to enhance clinical services and medical education at one of Nigeria’s premier teaching hospitals.
