The private faith-based institution, Ajayi Crowther University, is facing criticism for attempting to sweep a sexual assault case under the rug.
This follows a recent incident where students of the institution have taken to social media to make claims of alleged rape of a 300-level female student by two male vigilantes of the school. The students have disclosed the school's intention to cover up the case, remarking that the school authorities have not taken any actions to address the issue and bring justice. They disclosed that the institution has a habit of disregarding sexual assault cases, explaining that similar incidents have occurred in past years.
A friend, identified as @zia_tiffah, who is close to the rape victim, took to social media to raise awareness about the issue. She wrote, “A friend of a friend was raped in Ajayi Crowther University by two vigilantes of the school. The school wants to cover it up, but she wants awareness brought to the story because this is not the first time it’s happening.”

She further expressed her disappointment with the porters to whom the victim had apparently reported. She explained that the nurses and porters have been trying to conceal the case to save the face of the University. “Especially the fact that there are women that tried to hush the whole thing, even the nurses and porters,” a student added. “Why do organizations act this way? Instead of holding the persons responsible and bringing them to justice, you’re trying to silence the victim and keep the crime hidden to protect your own interest. I really hope she gets justice for this,” an internet user remarked.

Reacting to this, netizens have commented on the silence of the institution as they are yet to release a formal statement on the incident. “It’s the number of people in authority that tried to silence the girl and conceal the whole situation that disgusts me,” one said. “This is just sad. Why would the school cover up for a vigilante? Get him to face justice and help your student,” another commented.

“God, please. This story makes me so angry. Someone was raped in a Christian University and the school authority wants to cover it up? The girl needs medical attention first, but she has had her phone seized and access to her denied,”
“I hate people, especially people in power, because why are you covering up for people that commit a very hideous crime? Your employees committed sexual assault and you want to cover up for them and bully the victim?” concerned individuals expressed.
