Parent Criticizes School For Sending Ward Home for Late Coming

A woman has criticized a secondary school for sending her sister home due to tardiness. This incident was shared by EstherSmileTv on Facebook, where she expressed her displeasure at Bookworkshop College, Ikotun Lagos, for sending her sister, Favour, home for arriving late.

She created a video explaining that Favour left home at 8:16am and arrived at school by 8:30am, but was sent home by the Principal. She stated, “Favour arrived at school by 8:30am and they sent her away, not for any misconduct, but for being late without informing me.” Upon seeing Favour at home, she contacted the Principal to inquire why Favour was expelled from school. She conveyed that the Principal was impolite and disregarded all the explanation she gave for Favour arriving late to school.

She further explained that the school did not show enough concern for her ward’s safety by sending her home. She suggested that a punishment would have been more appropriate than sending her home, where she could be exposed to potential dangers of accident and predators.

Internet users reacting to this incident expressed that the school was in the wrong for expelling a student without notifying the parent. One user expressed, “How dare you, @BooksworkshopSchool, jeopardize a child’s safety and well-being like that! Have you considered the trauma and anxiety this could cause?, It’s unacceptable and inexcusable. You need to take responsibility for your actions and prioritize the safety and education of your students! At the very least, you should be informing parents and working together to address issues.”
