AKSU to Launch Additional Postgraduate Programmes

The Acting Vice-Chancellor of Akwa Ibom State University (AKSU), Prof. OtoAbasi E. Akpan, has reaffirmed the commitment of his administration to commence new Postgraduate Programmes as the institution concludes preparations for the National Universities Commission (NUC) verification exercise.

The Acting Vice-Chancellor of Akwa Ibom State University (AKSU), Prof. OtoAbasi E. Akpan, has reaffirmed the commitment of his administration to commence new Postgraduate Programmes as the institution concludes preparations for the National Universities Commission (NUC) verification exercise.

Prof. Akpan gave the assurance on Monday, September 1, 2025, when he received a delegation from the Department of Political Science, Faculty of Social Sciences, during a courtesy visit at the University’s main campus in Ikot Akpaden, Mkpat Enin Local Government Area.

He commended the delegation, led by the Head of Department, Dr. Victor E. Ita, for aligning with the vision and mission of AKSU, while pledging to address the department’s challenges and pressing needs. The Acting Vice-Chancellor emphasized the importance of teamwork and inclusive leadership, stressing his resolve to reposition AKSU as a hub of academic innovation and competitiveness through the establishment of new faculties and programmes in line with global standards.

In his remarks, Dr. Ita congratulated Prof. Akpan on his elevation and expressed gratitude to the Visitor to the University, Governor Umo Eno, PhD, for what he described as a bold decision in appointing Prof. Akpan. He also highlighted the department’s challenges and expressed hope that they would be addressed under the current administration.

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Iniobong Umotong, in a vote of thanks, commended the Acting Vice-Chancellor for his assurances and urged the visiting team to collaborate with the University management to achieve the outlined goals.

Also present at the meeting were the Head of Administration in the Office of the Vice-Chancellor, Mr. Akaninyene Ibanga; the Head of the Directorate of Information, Public Relations and Protocol (DIPRP), Mr. Gabriel Otu; staff of the Directorate; and faculty members from the Department of Political Science, including Dr. Monday Dickson, Dr. Essien Ukpe, Dr. Benson E. Udom, Dr. John O. Obisung, Dr. Anietie Atai, Dr. Effiong Etuk, and Dr. Idorenyin Augustine.
