Akwa Ibom Corpers Still in Captivity Four Months After Abduction
Despite protests by parents and relatives, who spent over N13 million in efforts to secure their release, and assurances from security agents, the victims are yet to be freed. Kidnappers demanded a ransom of N10 million per victim, an amount the parents could not raise.
Eight graduates from Akwa Ibom State, abducted on their way to the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) orientation camp in Sokoto State, remain in captivity four months after their abduction. The graduates were kidnapped by gunmen on August 17 while traveling in an AKTC bus in Zamfara State.
Despite protests by parents and relatives, who spent over N13 million in efforts to secure their release, and assurances from security agents, the victims are yet to be freed. Kidnappers demanded a ransom of N10 million per victim, an amount the parents could not raise.

Concerns on social media express disappointment in the government and security agencies for failing to rescue the young graduates. Some users called for the scrapping of the NYSC scheme, while others suggested allowing individuals to serve in their geopolitical zones.
The Nigeria Police Force Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, has not responded to inquiries as of the time of filing this report.
