Al-Hikmah University to Commence MBBS Programme in 2024/2025 Academic Session

The Governing Council of Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin, has approved the commencement of the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) programme starting from the 2024/2025 academic session. This decision was announced by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Noah Yusuf, during his fourth anniversary press briefing on campus.

Prof. Yusuf expressed gratitude to the Kwara State Governor, Mallam Abdul Rahman Abdul Razaq, for the approval of Sobi Specialist Hospital in Ilorin as a training facility for medical students. He highlighted that the university has seen a significant increase in both undergraduate and postgraduate enrollments compared to previous years, currently offering a total of 157 programmes across seven faculties.

Preparations are underway for a resource visitation by the National Universities Commission (NUC) to finalize arrangements for the full commencement of the MBBS programme. Prof. Yusuf also noted the university’s commitment to staff development, with recent approvals granted for academic and non-academic staff to proceed on sabbatical leave after meeting stipulated requirements.

In addition to academic advancements, Prof. Yusuf emphasized the university’s substantial investment in agriculture, particularly in its Faculty of Agriculture located at the Igbaja campus in Ifelodun Local Government Area. He highlighted ongoing projects including the cultivation of plantain and potatoes, with over N40 million allocated towards agricultural production.

Furthermore, Prof. Yusuf addressed the financial challenges faced by the university due to its categorization as “Band A,” resulting in a notable increase in electricity bills. Despite these challenges, he reaffirmed Al-Hikmah University's commitment to academic excellence and sustainable development.
