The university will also from next academic year begin to conduct pregnancy tests for new female students and the post-Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations for all applicants before admitting them.

Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof Samuel Ayo Bandele, gave these hints at the 7th matriculation ceremony of the institution.

502 students out of the total new intakes are admitted into 100 Level while the remaining 43 are admitted into 200 Level.

The vice-chancellor, while congratulating them on their new academic journey, urged them to be focused, committed and totally dedicated to their studies and other lawful engagements as students of the institution.

He explained that the university has all it takes in terms of competent personnel and good facilities and environment to train and equip them with the right knowledge, skills and good character that will make them fit-for-purpose graduates irrespective of their disciplines.

He, however, cautioned them to shun all forms of unruly activities and behaviours such as fighting, cultism, hooliganism, examination malpractice, indecent dressing and so forth, noting that the university maintains zero tolerance for them.

According to him, Anchor University is a faith-based institution and we must not deviate from the principle of holiness and righteousness being preached by our proprietor, Deeper Life Bible Church.

“And that is why you are expected to pursue excellence all around by attending every fellowship and spiritual gathering expected of you, being punctual in class, at meetings and also respecting constituted authorities and the elders,” he stressed.

He explained that the university’s decision to start conducting pregnancy tests as part of admission requirements for new female intakes from next year is to caution those who are interested to come to the university not to engage in immoral activities such as illicit sexual affairs.

According to him, society is full of immoral practices including illicit affairs among youths and our church, Deeper Life Bible Church is known globally as where righteousness and holiness are being preached and so, we don’t need to pretend not to preach the same message even as a school.

The VC said, “We all need to jointly raise well-behaved and Godly fearing children that will be problem solvers and not problem givers to the society.

“Our university is for learning and not to nurse babies. So, except for the married new female students, we will start conducting pregnancy tests on others who are unmarried from next year.”

Prof Bandele, however, pointed out that if such a test is confirmed to be positive, the school may

arrange rehabilitation programmes for the student concerned and not necessarily send them away as doing so may be more dangerous to society.

He urged parents and guardians not to lag in their responsibilities but to support the school to train their children to become relevant to themselves and society even before graduation.
