The Association of Nigeria University Professional Administrators (ANUPA), Lagos State University Chapter has organised a one-day in-house training for staff on Administrative Officer I to Senior Assistant Registrar cadre.
The well-attended training was held on Tuesday, 25th July 2023 at Aderemi Makanjuola Lecture Theatre, Main Campus, Ojo, Lagos.
At the training, Staff of the University Registry were tasked to embrace leadership and professionalism to excel in the institution.
The Registrar and immediate past Chairman of ANUPA-LASU, Mr. Emmanuel A. FANU, in his opening remarks *welcomed participants and praised the ANUPA-LASU executives for organizing the training to enhance the skill and professionalism of the low and middle-level administrators.
The generalissimo of records affirmed that administrators in the University system are human resource experts and are expected to have adequate knowledge of the Conditions of Service, LASU Laws, and Policy papers.
He added that an administrator must be well grounded in minutes writing and *have the ability* to provide guidance to the academic staff.
The Chairman, ANUPA-LASU and Deputy Registrar, Academic Staff Establishment, Mr. Samuel OTESANYA, in his speech, reiterated that the aim of the training was to help broaden the understanding of administrative officers on the fundamentals of the Registry Department in the University.
He further urged participants to pay rapt attention to all that would be taught by the resource persons to benefit from their wealth of experience on the job as professional administrators.
The training commenced with the topic, *Core Values for Effective and Efficient Registry* by Mrs. Z. F. MOBOLAJI-ASHIRU, Deputy Registrar, Student’s Affairs Division.
In her presentation, she explained that the ways to improve efficiency include categorizing and prioritizing your work, Identifying the distractors and eliminating them, and being prepared for an alternative plan.
The second presentation was done by Mr. Kabiru Olawale OKUGBESAN, Deputy Registrar, Admissions Unit. He lectured the administrators on the Functions of the Registry. He explained that the key function of the Registry included secretarial functions, human resource management, custodian of rules, regulations, and symbols of authority.
Deputy Registrar, Exams and Records Unit, Mrs. Abiodun MERUWOMA made the third presentation. She spoke on Making the Registry Effective as the Hub of the University.
The fourth presentation was done by Mr. Oladele OLORUNFUNMI, Deputy Registrar, Registrar’s Office who made a presentation on the Structure of the Registry.
Senior officials of the University administration such as the Librarian, Dr. Emmanuel Lai ADEBAYO; the Bursar, Mr. Said Babatunde OLAYINKA, who was represented by Deputy Bursar, Mr. R.B YUSUF; Deputy Registrar and Faculty Officer, Faculty of Arts, Mrs. Iyabode YUSUF and Deputy Registrar, Legal Unit, Mrs. Olajumoke BOYEJO, were all on ground to support the organisers during the training.
