The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) at Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, disclosed that more than 25 of its members have passed away due to financial hardships resulting from the non-payment of salaries.

Dr. Cyril Oziegbe Onogbosele, the chapter's chairperson, made this revelation during a press briefing in Benin City. He lamented the prolonged denial of salaries to academic staff, which has persisted for 26 months since January 2022.

"Onogbosele highlighted the distress and crisis faced by staff, emphasizing the detrimental impact on their health and well-being. He noted a correlation between salary irregularities and the deteriorating health conditions of staff, attributing some deaths to the inability to afford essential healthcare.
