ASUU AAU Ekpoma Convenes Emergency Congress Meeting Over Warning Strike
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Ambrose Alli University (AAU) Ekpoma Chapter, has called an emergency congress meeting to deliberate on the proposed commencement of a two-week warning strike.
In a notice signed by the Chapter Secretary, Dr. William Odion, the meeting is scheduled to hold on Monday, October 13, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. in the **Pre-degree (100 Level) Hall, Main Campus, AAU, Ekpoma.
The meeting will focus on the Union’s plan to join the **nationwide warning strike** declared by ASUU over unresolved national issues affecting the education sector.
This development comes shortly after the appointment of a new Vice-Chancellor and at a time when the University has enjoyed several years of uninterrupted academic activities — a rare stability many students and staff have celebrated.
However, ASUU insists that many of the infrastructural developments seen today in AAU — from renovated lecture halls to staff training and scholarships abroad — were achieved through the struggles and sacrifices made during past strikes, largely funded by interventions such as the Education Trust Fund (ETF).
According to Union members, these gains are reminders of why continued agitation remains necessary, even for state universities like AAU. They argue that the benefits of previous strikes are visible proof that collective action works.
Yet, opinions remain divided on campus. While some believe the strike is a justified push for better conditions and national reforms, others — especially students — question whether this is the right time, given the school’s new leadership and ongoing academic stability.
As one student put it, *“We just got a new Vice-Chancellor, and things have been moving smoothly. Do we really need to go on strike now?”*
The outcome of Monday’s meeting will likely determine whether AAU Ekpoma will join the nationwide industrial action or maintain its current peace.
