ASUU Declares Indefinite Strike, Shuts Down Sokoto State University

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Sokoto State University branch, has declared a total, comprehensive, and indefinite strike, beginning Wednesday, February 28, 2025. The decision comes as a result of the failure of the university administration, governing council, and Sokoto State Government to address lingering issues raised by the union.

In a resolution reached at a congress meeting held at the Centre for Caliphate Studies, the union reviewed the government's response to its demands and expressed dissatisfaction with the level of commitment shown by the relevant authorities. Consequently, ASUU-SSU announced the immediate suspension of all academic activities in the institution.

The strike, described as comprehensive and indefinite, will result in the cessation of all statutory meetings, examinations, student supervision, marking, and grading of scripts. To ensure strict compliance, the union has activated its strike monitoring committee.
