ASUU-SSU Declares 3-week Warning strike starting on the 19th of August,2024

he Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) Sokoto State University Branch (SSU) have announced a 3-week warning strike starting from August 19, 2024. This action comes in response to unresolved issues between the union and the federal government.

The strike was declared after several efforts to contact the government proved abortive.  Some of their demands include:

1.       Reconstitution of the University Governing Council

2.       Payment of outstanding Earned Academic Allowance (EAA)

3.        Payment of outstanding withheld cooperative deductions

4.       Implementation of 25%-35% salary increment

5.       Rehabilitation/renovation of lecture halls/classes damaged by rainstorm and

6.       Completion of abandoned university staff quarters.

The union are calling for public support and urging the government to act swiftly to resolve these disputes. The warning strike, if not addressed, could escalate into a longer-term industrial action, further impacting the already fragile state of higher education in Nigeria.
