ASUU-UNIZIK Grants Scholarships to 30 Indigent Students
Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) awards scholarships worth N50,000 each to 30 deserving undergraduates at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Anambra, supporting academic excellence and easing financial burdens.

In a benevolent move aimed at supporting academic excellence and lessening financial burdens, the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has awarded scholarships to 30 deserving students of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, Anambra.
The beneficiaries, all undergraduates, encompass a diverse range of disciplines and include one student living with disabilities. Addressing the recipients at the ASUU-UNIZIK conference hall, Chairman Prof. Kingsley Ubaoji announced each student would receive a scholarship of fifty thousand naira (N50,000).

Prof. Ubaoji emphasized that the selection process was rigorous, with candidates chosen based on their applications and interviews, ensuring the scholarships were granted to those most deserving. He further disclosed that this initiative stemmed from a directive from the national body of ASUU to alleviate financial constraints faced by brilliant but economically disadvantaged students across public universities in Nigeria.

Moreover, Prof. Ubaoji revealed that in addition to the scholarships awarded, the national body of ASUU would provide N200,000 scholarships to two indigent students specifically from UNIZIK.

"The union's responsibility extends beyond strikes; we are committed to nurturing the academic aspirations of talented students from underprivileged backgrounds," Prof. Ubaoji emphasized. He encouraged the beneficiaries to utilize the funds wisely, suggesting they invest in ventures that would yield future dividends.
With over a hundred applicants, the selection process was highly competitive, with only thirty students securing the scholarships. Prof. Ubaoji assured that this act of generosity would become a recurring quarterly program, fostering encouragement and support for deserving students.
The gesture underscores ASUU's dedication not only to the academic welfare of students but also to fostering a culture of inclusivity and excellence within the Nigerian educational landscape.
