A 500-level student at ATBU, Joseph Agabaidu, has been fatally stabbed to death by robbers in an attempted phone theft.

A 500-level Geology student at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi (ATBU), Joseph Agabaidu, has been fatally stabbed to death by robbers on saturday in an attempt to steal his phone.

It was reported that the incident occurred as he was heading to his lodge in Yelwan Tudu, a suburb of the Bauchi metropolis, about one kilometer from the school gate, around 7 pm on Saturday.

Despite efforts by health personnel to save his life, he succumbed to his injuries, and gave up the ghost the following morning on Sunday.

The deceased is reported to be the eldest among four children of his family who went to school at ATBU, Bauchi.

According to a source, "it's not the first time such an incident occurred, last year the same incident occurred with a Benue Born in his apartment, stabbed to death too, which was from Tiv to be precise and the issues was taking to Students Affairs ATBU. And no action was taken to ensure that the hudlums were brought to book".

Meanwhile, students at ATBU are erupted a peaceful protest on Monday morning to highlight security concerns and urge the school management, government, and security agencies to enhance student safety.

However, policemen in patrol vehicles took control of the situation to maintain law and order.

“In the wake of this heartbreaking loss, we implore the school management, the police, and the Bauchi State government to prioritise and enhance the security of students within the state.

“Our community should not have to endure such sorrow, and proactive measures are crucial to prevent further tragedies.

“Joseph is an older brother to three other siblings of his, all schooling here in ATBU. The VP SUG, two other staff members of the university and his siblings will be conveying his corpse back home,” he stated.
