ATBU SUG President Comr. Shariff A. Toro Resigns Over Family Commitments
The President of the Students’ Union Government, SUG, Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi Chapter, Comr. Shariff Abdulmalik Toro, has formally tendered his resignation from office with effect from 13th August, 2026.
In a letter addressed to the students’ community, Toro said the decision followed considerable reflection and consultation with his family. He cited pressing family circumstances and personal responsibilities that require his immediate attention and presence.
According to the letter, Toro noted that the office of the SUG President deserves full attention and energy to effectively meet its responsibilities.
“In view of my current circumstances, I consider it more responsible and in the best interest of the Union to voluntarily step aside,” he stated.

Toro expressed deep appreciation to the students of ATBU for the confidence reposed in him, and to the University Management, the Dean of Students’ Affairs, members of the SUG, the Students’ Representative Assembly, and other stakeholders who supported his administration.
He added that his decision was made in good faith and with sincere respect for the institution and the Students’ Union Government. He reaffirmed his commitment to the peace, progress, and development of the University and wished the Union continued success in fulfilling its mandate.

Toro also requested that the appropriate constitutional and institutional procedures be commenced to give effect to the resignation and facilitate a smooth and orderly transition of leadership.
The letter was copied to the Vice-Chancellor, ATBU, the Dean, Students Affairs Division, Chief Security Officer, SUEC, and SRA.
