Ayorinde Olurinde Ogunruku, a name synonymous with excellence in university administration, marks his 70th birthday today, Monday, October 21, 2024. Known for his unparalleled contributions to the Nigerian university system, Ogunruku has dedicated over four decades to shaping the landscape of tertiary education in the country.

A former Registrar of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Ogunruku's career is characterized by his leadership, dedication, and transformational impact across various institutions. His journey into the world of academia began with a humble upbringing in Ido-Ekiti, Ekiti State, where he was born on October 21, 1954. He attended Omodewa Local Authority Primary School and later Ekiti Parapo College, Ido-Ekiti, where he completed his secondary education in flying colors.

Ogunruku pursued a Bachelor of Arts in Education (English) at the University of Ife (now OAU) and later earned a Master’s in Public Administration from the same institution in 1990. His early career saw him serving as a teacher at Imade College, Owo, where his passion for education and administration first shone through.

In 1982, Ogunruku became the first Administrative Officer at the newly established Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA). Over the years, his administrative acumen and commitment to excellence led to his rapid rise within the system, culminating in his appointment as Acting Registrar of FUTA in 2006. His tenure was marked by innovation, loyalty, and efficient service delivery, earning him widespread commendation from the university's governing council.

In 2007, Ogunruku returned to his alma mater, OAU, where he was appointed Registrar following a competitive selection process. His tenure at OAU was marked by significant reforms, transforming the university’s registry into a model of administrative excellence. His exceptional leadership led to a one-year extension of his term, further cementing his reputation as a visionary leader.
