On August 12, 2024, suspected bandits attacked travelers along the Takum-Wukari road in Taraba State, resulting in the deaths of six travelers, including a university lecturer, a deputy registrar, and a secondary school principal. The victims were identified as a lecturer from Federal University Wukari, a deputy registrar from Taraba State School of Health Technology, and Mr. Samuel Mbapuun, a secondary school principal.
The attack occurred early in the morning when the bandits emerged from the bush with guns and machetes, targeting a vehicle transporting the victims. The assault also involved attacks on nearby farmers. Following the incident, tension escalated as local youths from Takum lynched three individuals at Wukari junction in response.
State police are managing the situation, with ASP Gambo Kwache reporting that the command is actively addressing the crisis.
