Bayero University Kano and KIRCT to Sign MoU on Genomics and Research Collaboration
Bayero University Kano (BUK) and the Kano Independent Research Centre Trust (KIRCT) have announced plans to formalise a strategic partnership aimed at advancing genomics and other priority research sectors.
The decision was reached on Monday, December 22, 2025, during a high-level courtesy visit by the Director-General of KIRCT, Prof. Hamisu Salihu, to the Vice-Chancellor of BUK, Prof. Haruna Musa. The upcoming Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) seeks to institutionalise a long-standing relationship between the two organisations in the areas of capacity building, internships, and high-impact research.
A primary focus of the partnership is the utilization of KIRCT’s state-of-the-art genomics facilities. Prof. Salihu highlighted the centre’s recent success in securing a prestigious grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation—a project that already features the active participation of BUK academic staff.
The collaboration aims to leverage this momentum to jointly pursue further international funding opportunities, positioning Kano as a hub for cutting-edge genomic studies in the region.
