Bayero University Kano Appoints Dr. Zakari Sabiu Yarima as Acting Director of Security
Dr. Yarima previously served as the Head of the Department of Sociology and has extensive experience in university security.

The Vice Chancellor of Bayero University Kano, Professor Sagir Adamu Abbas, has appointed Dr. Zakari Sabiu Yarima as the Acting Director of the Security Division, effective immediately. Dr. Yarima previously served as the Head of the Department of Sociology and has extensive experience in university security.
Professor Abbas emphasized that the appointment was based on merit and underscored the university's commitment to a zero-tolerance policy regarding security lapses. He announced plans to overhaul the security infrastructure to enhance safety across campus.
Dr. Yarima, originally from Dayi Village in Malumfashi Local Government of Katsina State, holds a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B), a Master’s degree in Sociology, and a PhD in Sociology. He began his career at Bayero University in 1998 as a security officer, eventually rising to Assistant Chief Security Officer before transitioning to academia in 2013.
Additionally, Dr. Yarima has served in various university committees and was recently elected as Head of the Department of Sociology from 2022 to 2024. Prior to his academic career, he worked as an officer in the Nigerian Police from 1987 to 1995.
This appointment is seen as a strategic move to strengthen campus security and ensure a safe learning environment for all students and staff.
