Bayero University Professors to Receive Full Salary as Pension Upon Retirement
In a significant development, the National Pension Commission (PenCom) has announced that professors at Bayero University Kano (BUK) will receive their full salary as pension upon retirement, in accordance with the Universities Miscellaneous Provisions Amendment Act (UMPAA) 2012.
This announcement was made during a one-day sensitization workshop on Programmed Withdrawal Template, organized by PenCom in collaboration with the Nigerian University Pension Management Company (NUPEMCO). The workshop aimed to provide clarity on the payment of retirement benefits to professors covered under the UMPAA 2012.
The Director General of PenCom, Mrs. Omolola Oloworaran, represented by Malam Usman Musa, emphasized that eligible professors who have spent 20 years in continued service and reached 70 years of age will receive 100% of their last salary as pension.
BUK's Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sagir Adamu Abbas, welcomed the initiative, stating that the university is committed to ensuring that professors are protected both in service and on retirement. He assured that the university will continue to engage stakeholders to protect the rights and benefits of professors.
The workshop, held on February 21, 2025, at the Mahmoud Tukur Theatre Old Campus, provided a platform for stakeholders to discuss the implementation of the UMPAA 2012 and address concerns regarding the payment of retirement benefits to professors.
