Benue Government Resolves BSU Alumni Leadership Crisis
Benue State Government successfully mediates resolution of leadership crisis within Benue State University Alumni Association, paving way for unified elections and withdrawal of court cases.
The Benue State Government has successfully mediated a resolution to the longstanding leadership crisis plaguing the Benue State University Alumni Association (BSUAA). In a pivotal peace meeting convened at the Government House in Makurdi, factions of the association, under the guidance of Deputy Governor H.E. Bar. Dr. Sam Ode, mni, reached a consensus to end disputes and pave the way for forthcoming elections.
The meeting, held on Friday, July 12, 2024, saw both factions agree to withdraw all pending court cases, ensuring a unified approach towards conducting elections. Addressing the gathering, Deputy Governor Dr. Sam Ode emphasized the importance of alumni associations in state development, underscoring Governor H.E. Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia's directive to foster dialogue and unity within the BSUAA.
Key outcomes of the peace meeting include:

1. Withdrawal of Court Cases: Both factions committed to initiating the withdrawal process of all legal disputes.
2. Formation of Electoral Committee: Each faction will nominate two members to serve on an electoral committee tasked with overseeing the upcoming elections.
3. Government Support: The Benue State Government pledged logistical and security support to ensure a peaceful and transparent election process.
4. Neutrality Assured: The state government guaranteed impartiality throughout the electoral process, ensuring fairness for all parties involved.

Dr. Bem Ugoh and Dr. Tersugh Vandefan, representing the factions, expressed gratitude to the state government for its intervention and affirmed their dedication to achieving reconciliation and unity within the BSUAA.
This landmark agreement signifies a significant step towards restoring harmony and effective leadership within the BSUAA, reflecting the government's commitment to conflict resolution and collaborative governance.

The peace meeting was attended by key stakeholders including the Solicitor General of Benue State, Barr. Samuel Terna Sule, and Hon. Jonathan Iyoo Igbondo, Special Adviser to the Governor on Union and Labour Relations, alongside members of the Board of Trustees and the National Interim Committee of both BSUAA factions.
