Academic activities were disrupted today at Joseph Sawuan Tarka University Makurdi, as members of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU) embarked on a seven-day warning strike. This move aligns with the nationwide strike initiated by the Joint Action Committee of SSANU and NASU to address grievances regarding unfair treatment and salary disparities by the federal government.

Speaking to journalists, Festus Omemu, the Secretary of SSANU, criticized the government's failure to honor agreements with the unions, particularly regarding withheld salaries and inadequate funding for universities. Omemu emphasized the unions' determination to continue the strike until their demands are met, warning of escalation to an indefinite strike if necessary.
