UNILORIN Debunks Rumours, Confirms MBBS Admission Is Open for 2026/2027 Session

The University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) has dismissed reports circulating on social media claiming that it has suspended admission into its MBBS programme for the 2026/2027 academic session, describing the information as false, misleading and without any official backing.

The University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) has dismissed reports circulating on social media claiming that it has suspended admission into its MBBS programme for the 2026/2027 academic session, describing the information as false, misleading and without any official backing.

In a press statement issued on Saturday, July 4, 2026, the university management clarified that admission into the MBBS programme remains open and that Post-UTME registration for the programme is currently ongoing.

The statement, signed by the university's Director of Corporate Affairs, Mr. Kunle Akogun, stated that the rumour did not originate from the institution and does not reflect its official position.

According to the university, the misinformation was intended to confuse prospective applicants and should be completely disregarded.

The management reiterated that the university had already advertised admission into the MBBS programme for the 2026/2027 academic session and urged qualified candidates to proceed with their applications.

Addressing concerns over medical graduates who are yet to be inducted, the university acknowledged the situation and assured affected graduates that it is working closely with the relevant regulatory authorities to facilitate the induction process as quickly as possible.

The university encouraged the affected graduates to remain patient, assuring them that further updates would be communicated in due course.

UNILORIN also stated that it is taking all necessary measures to ensure that students currently enrolled in its medical programme are not adversely affected, stressing that the academic progress and welfare of its students remain a top priority.

The institution reaffirmed its respect for the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN), noting that it will continue to engage constructively with the regulatory body to ensure that all outstanding issues are resolved amicably.

The management urged prospective students, parents, guardians and the general public to disregard the false reports circulating on social media and rely only on the university's official communication channels for authentic information.

The university also reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining excellence, stability and the highest standards in medical education.
