Bishop Avenya Urges Akperan Orshi Polytechnic Council to Revitalize School’s Agricultural Legacy
Bishop Avenya calls on the Governing Council of Akperan Orshi Polytechnic to restore the institution’s former agricultural prominence and enhance its educational and spiritual contributions.
Bishop Avenya of the Catholic Diocese of Gboko has called on the Governing Council of Akperan Orshi Polytechnic (AOPOLY) to restore the institution's former prestige, particularly in the fields of agriculture and skills acquisition. This appeal was made during a courtesy visit from the Council, led by Dr. Victoria Pillah.
Addressing the Council, Bishop Avenya emphasized the importance of reigniting the Polytechnic's legacy as a leading institution in agricultural reform. He highlighted the school's historical role in producing a diverse range of seeds and seedlings during its tenure as a College of Agriculture. The Bishop urged the Council to ensure that this rich agricultural history remains integral to AOPOLY's new identity as a Polytechnic.
“The Governing Council must demonstrate strong will power and obtain the right orientation to enhance skilled manpower and create more opportunities for the institution,” Bishop Avenya stated. He also blessed and prayed for the Council, encouraging them to make the Polytechnic a hub of both learning and research.
Dr. Victoria Pillah, Chairman of the Council, expressed the need for divine protection and guidance in their endeavors. She acknowledged Bishop Avenya's potential contributions and reiterated the Council’s hope to frequently seek his guidance.
Rector of AOPOLY, Dr. Simon Iorchor, proposed involving the Diocese in the upcoming Guidance/Counselling & Career Development unit, which aims to enhance character development and spiritual growth among students.
The meeting concluded with prayers and blessings for the Council members, including Mrs. Theresa Ikwue, Mr. Sam Agwa, Mr. Joseph Adi, and Mr. Nicholas Ugalahi, who were encouraged to work collaboratively towards the institution’s advancement.
