Borno State University Vice Chancellor Emphasizes Importance of Peace for Progress

Professor Babagana Gutti, Vice Chancellor of Borno State University, has stressed that peace is a crucial ingredient for achieving meaningful progress in any society. He made this statement during a courtesy visit from officials of the Society for Peace Studies and Practice (SPSP) in Nigeria on Monday.

 

The team, led by Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Internal Security, Modu Alhaji Mustapha, was in the state to confer a fellowship award on Governor Babagana Umara Zulum. They also visited the university as a partner in peace and to observe the institution's progress firsthand.

Professor Gutti emphasized the importance of peace, saying, "If peace is expensive, then try conflict and see." He thanked the team for their visit and expressed the university's readiness to support the society's programs and values.

President of the SPSP, Professor Nathaniel Umukero, commended the peaceful atmosphere in the state, attributing it to Governor Zulum's excellent leadership qualities. He also praised the government's efforts in building a standard university and congratulated Professor Gutti on his well-deserved appointment as the second substantive Vice Chancellor of Borno State University.

 

During the visit, Professor Umukero conferred an honorary membership of the SPSP on Professor Gutti on behalf of the chairman.¹
