BSN Concludes Annual Essat Competition for Corps Members, Corps Members From Cross River, Enugu, Zamfara Come Tops

The annual Bible Society of Nigeria essay competition, organized for youths serving the nation in the mandatory 1-year National Service have been concluded today with corps members from Cross River, Enugu and Zamfara emerging victorious in the highly intellectual competition at the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs auditorium, Kofo Abayomi, Lagos.

The annual Bible Society of Nigeria essay competition, organized for youths serving the nation in the mandatory 1-year National Service have been concluded today with corps members from Cross River, Enugu and Zamfara emerging victorious in the highly intellectual competition at the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs auditorium, Kofo Abayomi, Lagos.

Myschoolnews reports the competition which started in the earlier months of this year, had over one thousand entries writing on the theme "Building strong institutions in Nigeria : A pathway to a national rebirth." 

 

After due diligence by the selection committee, 6 corps members emerged as the finalists. The finalists are; Odelana Oluwafunke(EN/23A/0927), Praise Modekwe (CR/23A/1411), Tashi David(ZM/23A/0076),Ese Gift(LA/23A/7157), Adejumo Samuel (LA/22C/7175), and Favour Ugar (KB/22C/1309).

 

After a 20-minute presentation of what earned each contestant a place in the finals, Praise Modekwe, a graduate of Linguistics from Nnamdi Azikwe University, serving in Cross Rivers, came first, winning a sum of #400, 000 along with a Bible, and other literatures. Odelana Oluwafunke, a graduate of Public Administration from the Obafemi Awolowo University, serving in Enugu came second winning a sum of #300, 000, a Bible and other literatures. Tashi David, a graduate of Mass Communication from the University of Jos, serving in Zamfara State, emerged third position, with a sum of #200,000, a Bible and literatures. The 3 other finalists were given a Bible each, and a stack of literatures, while all the finalists were given Certificates of Participation.

 

Earlier in the programme, State Coordinator NYSC Lagos, Mrs Yetunde Baderinwa, while making a remark on behalf of the Director-General, Brigadier General YD Ahmed, commended the Bible Society of Nigeria for its consistency in the organization of the annual event which has continued to develop the knowledge base of the youths.

 

Speaking on the theme of the programme, she said if Nigeria must live up to its posture as the Giant of Africa, and live up to the bidding, we must jettison how we do things and invest in robust institutions, that will stay rooted to carrying out government policies.

 

Concluding a remarks, she called on the youths to take decisions that will aid the nation in building strong institutions. She ended by quoting Romans 8:19 which says "For the creation waits in eager expectation for the children of God to be revealed."
