CAILS-KWASU Students Protest over Sudden Change of Exam Venue

Students of the College of Arabic and Islamic Legal Studies (CAILS), affiliated with Kwara State University (KWASU), held a protest today following the sudden change of their examination venue.

The students, particularly those enrolled in the Degree Sandwich program, expressed their dissatisfaction with the short notice regarding the shift from the college premises to the KWASU Conference Centre in Sango.

Speaking with news men, Comrade Usman Saheed, a 300-level student of Arabic, voiced the frustrations of his peers. "We were caught off guard," Usman said. "The new venue is far, and no transportation arrangements were made. We demand a reversal to the original plan."

The abrupt venue change has caused concern among students regarding the logistical challenges of traveling to the new location, especially with exams just around the corner. Many students feel stranded and unprepared for the new arrangement.

Responding to the protest, Dr. Saad Adi, Provost of CAILS, shared his disappointment with KWASU’s decision to relocate the exams without prior consultation. “This program is a collaborative one. Every decision is supposed to be taken together,” he explained. “We were shocked that the information was not communicated properly through the appropriate channels. KWASU management assembled students without our knowledge just a few days before the exam."

Dr. Adi urged the students to remain calm, assuring them that efforts are being made to reach an amicable solution. “This is unacceptable, but we appeal to students to be patient as we work to resolve the issue.”

Despite repeated attempts, KWASU’s management has yet to issue any official statement or response to the protest.
