The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has commenced discussions with Federal University Lokoja (FUL) on a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative aimed at strengthening the university's healthcare services.

The proposed partnership was discussed during a courtesy visit by a CBN delegation led by Zubairu Abdulrahmani to the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Gbenga Solomon Ibileye, on Monday, July 6, 2026.
During the visit, Abdulrahmani congratulated Professor Ibileye on his appointment and expressed the bank's readiness to support the university through its CSR programme. He explained that the decision to begin the initiative with Federal University Lokoja was influenced by the fact that several members of the CBN CSR Committee are alumni of the institution.
He described the university as a policy-driven institution with a strong commitment to excellence, noting that the partnership would provide a solid platform for the successful implementation and sustainability of the intervention. He added that the initiative reflects the bank's commitment to improving lives through impactful community projects.
Responding, Professor Ibileye welcomed the delegation and appreciated the CBN for considering the university for the healthcare intervention. He described the visit as timely and expressed confidence that the proposed support would strengthen the institution's healthcare services and improve the well-being of staff and students.

The Vice-Chancellor also thanked the delegation for its concern over the tragic road accident that claimed the lives of five students last year. He explained that the incident highlighted the dangers posed by articulated vehicles and inadequate road infrastructure around the campus.
According to him, the university is pursuing the development of designated parking areas and the construction of a pedestrian bridge to improve safety and ease of movement within the institution, expressing optimism that the bank's support would complement these efforts.
Also speaking, Aliyu Saidu Bello disclosed that the CSR initiative is funded through voluntary contributions by members of staff who are committed to giving back to society. He noted that the programme covers various sectors, with the current phase focusing on healthcare.

Bello requested a comprehensive assessment of the university's healthcare needs to enable the CSR committee determine the nature and scope of the intervention.
